About

Newcastle Area bodyboarding, Solid bodyboard shop and Solid (Newcastle) bodyboard club are here to promote bodyboarding within the area and encourage riders to take the next step up in performance riding. Riders in the gorup range from 12yrs of age to 40 years of age and represent many generations of riders who have enjoyed the benefits of being in the ocean on a sponge!

Within the group are riders who have a passion for riding big, solid waves and believe this is the true role of the bodyboard as a wave riding vehicle. They can be seen at many of the reef’s that litter the coast in the area when the swell, wind and tides align. Many riders have gained international recognition through video parts and great photo’s shot from the area which have made it to print.

Whatever level of riding you are at, it is a widely held belief that experience in competition fuels the fire to progress. This healthy motivation, coupled with an environment that is inclusive and fun is what the club, the shop and area is about.

We believe strongly in etiquette in surfing and all things in life. We believe in the area’s future riders and we believe and understand the contributions past riders from the area have made to the Australian bodyboarding scene. We want to set an example for the younger riders, filmers and photographers, to be better surfers, more astute consumers and pro-active members of the bodyboarding community.

We hope you appreciate and enjoy what we have to offer. Any question feel free to drop into a comp, the shop or email the site admins.

See u in the water

Luke – mate, it’s good to see a young guys edit with some clean lines and less flopping around doing backies etc, so keep it up with the rail work! Nice airs too, no over extension and trying to milk a section, too much of that happening. We have a few young guys asking us about this sort of support and the crew at Solid will be reviewing the team structure/riders in the next couple months, certainly keep you in mind. Keep riding hard man…

    Dear Solid,
Mi name is Damian (Damo), I am 13 years old and i live in newcastle, australia, i bodyboard at merewether beach and have a few questions to ask you. Firstly, do the people who shoot some of your videos and pictures, are they professional lid photographers or just people who are hooked on bodyboarding pictures. I love photography for bodyboarding. I know a friend of a friend of mine named Rashta King and was wondering if you knew him. I was wondering if at some of the competitions you guys hold i could take photos in the water of some of the competitors, this may seem a strange request but i love the elements of bodyboarding in photography and the elements of surfing in photography and i would like to broaden my experience and hone my skills and one day get my photographs published in riptide and on this blog in the photo gallery.
If you feel interested in this idea, please get back to me on my email: damobuster@hotmail.com
